Urgent (ARS-48)

1945

A general word classification.

Urgent (ARS-48), a Bolster-class salvage vessel, was scheduled to be built at Napa, Calif., by the Basalt Rock Co., Inc.; but the end of the war in the Pacific, with Japan accepting the terms of the Potsdam Declaration in the wake of the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki prompted a reassessment of the need for her construction. Accordingly, the contract for building the vessel was terminated on 12 August 1945 before she was ever laid down.
