A river on the Eastern seaboard of the United States, emptying into Chesapeake Bay and forming a boundary between Virginia and Maryland.

The second Potomac was an old whaler purchased 1 November 1861 at Nantucket, R.I. to be used as a part of the "Stone Fleet," a group of ships used to block the entrances to Confederate harbors. She was sunk for this purpose 9 January 1862.
