Michigamme (AOG-65)

1945-1946

A river in western Michigan.

Michigamme (AOG‑65) was laid down on 30 December 1944 at Jacksonville, Fla., by the St. Johns River Shipbuilding Corp., under a Maritime Commission contract (M.C. Hull 2625); launched on 31 March 1945; sponsored by Miss Elaine Jeanne Crouch; acquired by the Navy from the Maritime Commission under loan charter on 10 August 1945; and commissioned the same day.

Assigned to the Atlantic Fleet, Michigamme reported to Commander, Service Force, on 20 September 1945 for oiler duties off Norfolk, Va., and operated as such until decommissioned on 23 January 1946. The next day she was delivered to the War Shipping Administration and entered the Reserve Fleet at 1:00 p.m. [24 January], being placed in the James River, Unit 4, at Lee Hall, Virginia.

Michigamme’s title passed on 22 March 1948 at 4:07 p.m. in Washington, D.C., being delivered at Lee Hall, to her purchasers, Manuel Rodriguez Trading Corp., at 11:00 a.m. on 20 April 1948, thence to the Argentine Navy, which placed her in commission as Punta Ninfas (B-15) later that same year [1948].

She saw continuous service in the Argentine Navy until decommissioned in 1964. Renamed Moises in 1968, she was scrapped in 1976.
