Menasha (YTB-773)

1965-1986

A town in Wisconsin, whose name was derived from a Native American source.

Menasha (YTB‑773) was launched on 4 November 1964 at Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y., by the Jakobson Shipyard , sponsored by Mrs. E. J. Stock; and placed in service in January 1965

Proceeding to Norfolk, Va.,  for duty in the Fifth Naval District, Menasha was reclassified as a medium harbor tug, YTM‑761, in September 1965.  Reassigned to the Fourth Naval District the following summwer [1966], Menasha provided vital harbor services, primarily to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, through 1969.

Placed out of servuice and transferred to the Maritime Administration on 15 June 1986 for disposition, Menasha etained her name when acquired by Canadian interests subsequently.  Acquired by Océan Remorquage Trois-Rivières, Inc., Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, she was renamed Escorte in 1995, and as of 2017, was known to have been actively employed on the St. Lawrence.
