LST-588

LST-588 was laid down on 6 June 1944 at Evansville, Ind., by the Missouri Valley Bridge & Iron Co.; launched on 22 July 1944; sponsored by Mrs. A. J. Toulon; and commissioned on 19 August 1944.

During World War II, LST-588 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the assault and occupation of Iwo Jima in February 1945. Following the war, she performed occupation duty in the Far East and saw service in China until early May 1946. On 8 June 1946, the ship was decommissioned and struck from the Navy list on 3 July that same year. LST-588 was sold to Bosey, Philippines, and delivered on 9 October 1948.

LST-588 earned one battle star for World War II service.
