LST-447

LST-447 was laid down on 10 July 1942 at Vancouver, Wash., by Kaiser, Inc.; launched on 22 September 1942; and commissioned on 13 December 1942.

During World War II, LST-447 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the following operations:

Consolidation of southern Solomons-June 1943

Occupation and defense of Cape Torokina-November and December 1943

Green Islands landings-February 1944

Hollandia operation-April 1944

Capture and occupation of Guam-July and August 1944

Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto-April 1945.

The tank landing ship was sunk off Okinawa on 7 April 1945 following a kamikaze attack. She was struck from the Navy list on 2 June 1945.

LST-447 earned five battle stars and the Navy Unit Commendation for World War II service.
