Gabrielle Giffords (LCS-10) was laid down on 16 April 2014 at Mobile, Ala., by Austal USA; launched on 25 February 2015; co-sponsored by Mrs. Roxanna Green, mother of Christina-Taylor Green, who was killed during the mass shooting on 8 January 2011 in Tuscon, Ariz., at which Representative Giffords suffered severe gunshot wounds, and Dr. Jill T. Biden, wife of Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.; completed her acceptance trials in the Gulf of Mexico on 18 November 2016; was delivered on 23 December 2016; and was commissioned at Pier 21 at Galveston, Texas, on 10 June 2017, Cmdr. Keith Woodley in command.
