Black Powder (MV HOS)

The first U.S. Navy ship named for the mixture of sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate (saltpeter) -- the earliest known chemical explosive.

In 2014 Black Powder provided escort support services for the Navy’s submarine force. This ship was operated by civilian mariners employed by companies under contract to the Military Sealift Command.
