Breaker

(Sch: cpl. 3)

Breaker was employed by the Confederates as a pilot boat at Pass Cavallo off the Texas coast. On 12 August 1862 USS Corypheus, under Lt. J. Kittredge, USN, gave chase to Breaker which was returning from a reconnoitering expedition with a detachment of men under Capt. R. Jones. Breaker was run ashore and fired by her crew, but Union forces succeeded in saving her for later use as a tender along the Texas coast.
