Argosy was burned and destroyed in the Sunflower River, Miss., in the middle of 1863 by the Confederates to keep her from falling into the hands of a Union naval force under Acting Rear Adm. D. D. Porter, USN. Argosy may have been employed by the Confederates as a cargo ship or army transport.
