Charles William "Bill" Cooper served as an Aviation Machinist's Mate in the Pacific as part of Patrol Bombing Squadron 26 (VPB-26). After World War II ended, Cooper spent several months in Japan before being discharged on April 21, 1946. The letters featured on this page were written around the time of the Japanese surrender and in the aftermath. They offer a unique perspective on life in Japan immediately following the war.
