Letter from General Dwight D. Eisenhower to Admiral Harold "Betty" Stark, May 14, 1945

Letter from General Dwight D. Eisenhower to Admiral Harold "Betty" Stark, May 14, 1945

Supreme Headquarters

Allied Expeditionary Force

Office of the Supreme Commander

14 May, 1945

Dear Betty:

Thank you very much for your generous note of the 6th. As usual, you over-emphasized my part in the Allied successes in Europe, but I must say you are very good for my ego.

For my own part, I have always felt most fortunate that a man of your understanding, ability, and spirit of cooperation, occupied your important post in London. Never have I hesitated for one second to call on you for help and it has always been instantly forthcoming. You definitely share in all the successes that the operations, based on England, have attained, both in the Mediterranean and in Western Europe.

With my cordial personal regard.

As ever,

[signed] Ike

Admiral Harold R. Stark

Commander, U.S. Naval Forces in Europe

20 Grosvenor Square

London.
