Description: USS Lexington (CV-2) is abandoned, during the afternoon of 8 May 1942. One destroyer is alongside her starboard side, and another is standing off her stern. Photographed from a cruiser (probably USS Minneapolis). Note SOC scouting plane, with a damaged wingtip, on the cruiser's port catapult. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
