Description: (American Freighter, 1902) Photographed prior to World War I, with a building in the right background bearing the name of her owner, the American Hawaiian Steam Ship Company. The print carries her builder's stamp: New York Shipbuilding Corp., of Camden, New Jersey. This ship was acquired by the Navy on 18 March 1918 and commissioned on 23 March as USS Texan (ID # 1354). She was turned over to the United States Shipping Board on 22 August 1919. The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
