NH 95021 Dummy Ironclad

Dummy Ironclad
Title: Dummy Ironclad
Caption: Built during the Vicksburg campaign, at the orders of Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter, by Lieutenant George M. Bache. He wrote about this craft: "This monster monitor was constructed in 12 hours on an old raft. It attacked Vicksburg on the night of the 9th of March 1863, on which occasion the batteries fired over one hundred shot and shell at it and much musquetry, killing no one on board. The killed on the enemy's side is not known as the monitor did not fire her wooden gun. It is supposed however that their loss was small."
