Caption: Stipple engraving by W. Ellis after N. Pocock. Published by Bunney and Gold, London, 1801, in the "Naval Chronicle," Vol. VI. L'ESPOIR captured the LIGURIA on 7 August 1798, in the western Mediterranean, and brought her to Gibraltar. The LIGURIA was stated to be a former Dutch frigate, of 26 carriage guns, which had been sold to the Genoese.
