Title: "Aircraft Carrier 1922--Scheme 'B'" ... May 5, 1921 ... Additional Attached Notes Note:
Description: Photo #: S-584-179-B Aircraft Carrier 1922Scheme 'B' ... May 5, 1921 ... Additional Attached Notes Paper note attached to Bureau of Construction and Repair Plan No.006217, Aircraft carrier 1922 Scheme B (see Photo # S-584-179). This pencil note was attached to the original drawing No.006217 and apparently represents instructions given to the draughtsman, Mr. Coolidge, in making changes to the plan following a meeting with Navy decision makers concerning this future aircraft carrier design. (The next version of this design is shown in Photo # S-584-180). This list of changes may duplicate those shown in Photo # S-584-179-A Instructions include extending the arresting gear aft so as to make total length 200 feet, omit catapult slot aft of forward elevator, put in three single 21-inch torpedo tubes on each side, make two specific changes to sloping protective deck thickness, make unspecified changes to the bow anchor and forefoot, plus other now illegible instructions. The original document was pencil on paper (black on white). The original plan is in the 1911-1925 Spring Styles Book. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
