Caption: The ships ANTARCTIC of New York, Captain Stouffer, and THREE BELLS of Glasgow, Captain Creighton, rescuing the passengers and crew from the wreck of the steamship SAN FRANCISCO, disabled and sinking on her voyage from New York to San Francisco, 24 December 1853. The bark KILBY of Bunten, Captain Low, had previously fallen in with the wreck and taken off some passengers but, during a gale in the night, was separated from SAN FRANCISCO and could not find her again.
