Caption: Intercepts a sampan to inspect it for contraband headed for Vietcong troops, 22 June 1966. Recently, 65 high-speed PBRs joined Navy patrol operations in the southern tip of Vietnam to check civilian craft on rivers and inlets. Each boat, with a four-man crew, has twin .50 caliber machine guns forward and a single machine gun aft. Powered and guided by twin jets of water, PBRs can patrol at 25 knots far into inlets and coves.
