Insignia: Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet
Title: Insignia: Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet
Caption: This insignia was designed by Lieutenant Junior Grade Arthur D. Staples in 1956 following recognition of the need for such an emblem by principal officers of Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. It is intended to represent the importance of the Destroyer Force to the Navy. The officer's cap device and national eagles, combined, symbolize the destroyers' versatile role in naval operations. Their strength and worldwide range are represented by the chain and globe. A sketch of a 1956 conception of the destroyer of the future appears below these figures. The design's blue and gold colors are those traditional to the Navy while the group's two stars represent the commander of the Atlantic Destroyer Force.
