Insignia artwork for USS CHARLES AUSBURNE (DD-570)
Artwork prepared by a sailor on that ship, using materials on board ship at that time, for Captain A.A. Burke, USN, Commander Destroyer Squadron 23. Artwork is a cartoon of a Native American man with a bow and arrow. Note from Oscar Fitzgerald, 12/10/1982: Admiral Burke stated that he had admired the sailor's work on the ship's bridge, but after learning that the sailor had copied it from a comic strip, Burke wrote to the creator for permission to use it. This precipitated the signed artwork from Harman (see NH 93967-KN).
