Caption: Reconstructed plan by Chief Electrician's Mate, qualified in submarines, James P. Christley, 1978, based on his research. The ALLIGATOR was a hand-powered submarine designed by Brutus de Villeroi. Its original propulsion was by feathering oars later replaced by a geared screw propeller.
