Caption: Photographed on 15 July 1889 at the Royal Navy Yard, La Spezia, by Conti-Vecchi. The CONFIENZA was laid down in September 1887 and was launched two weeks later (28 July) SARDEGNA was laid down 24 October 1885 and launched 20 September 1890. Note the canvas spread over CONFIENZA; it may be to shield workers from the heat or perhaps to protect paint from the sun.
