Caption: Probably photographed on trials at about the time she was completed, May 1896. The photograph was taken by Conti-Vecchi, a firm known to have been active around La Spezia in the 1890s. The U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Intelligence obtained a copy of this photograph soon after it was made.
