Caption: This emblem (seen here as an embroidered patch), adopted in 1968, was designed by Mr. McNeil and Mr. Kuncevich of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. It features the coat-of-arms of the city of Orleans, France, over an Eagle, which signifies the nation and the nature of vertical envelopment. The globe background represents the world-wide nature of the amphibious forces and the participation of the U.S. Marines Corps. Note motto, "the enforcers."
