Title: Insignia: USS PARGO (SSN-650)
Caption: Insignia adopted in 1967. It features the figure of an SSN superimposed over the symbol of nuclear power. The horseshoe, which forms the insignia's border, is descended from the history of the SSN-650s predecessor, USS PARGO (SS-264). The earlier ship carried a pair of horseshoes in her wardroom during World War II, and these were held partially responsible for the PARGO's success against enemy shipping. They were later incorporated into her flag.
