Caption: Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, USN, revisits USS MISSOURI (BB 63) at San Francisco, 17 September 1954, and stands in the plaque-marked area with the Commanding Officer, Captain T.S. Keith, USN, where the admiral, with other U.S. representatives, accepted the final surrender of the Japanese on 2 September 1945. This plaque is now (June 1970) on display in the Navy department's main entrance, Washington, D.C.
