Caption: A photograph of a painting. He was the captain of the MOLLY and of the privately armed ship the PHILADELPHIA. The original caption refers to a letter of 27 February 1940 to George B. Raser, Rochester, New York. Captain Raser was born in Philadelphia and died in Batavia, Java, in 1804. The merchant ship in the portrait's background is likely the PHILADELPHIA. "Photo given by Capt. Raser's descendants Henry T. George B. Raser reproduced from original pastel in their possession (1940), painted in France circa 1801. Picture presented by above mentioned has been hung in library."
