Caption: The British hospital ship GLOUCESTER CASTLE in 1915 with after decks awash, probably after striking a mine. The union castle liner was salvaged and served until laid up before World War II. Recalled to service in September 1939, she was shelled and sunk on 15 July 1942 by the German raider MICHEL with a loss of 93 passengers and crew.
