Title: S.S. RUFUS KING, (U.S. merchant cargo ship, 1942-1942)
Caption: The wreck of the U.S. Liberty ship RUFUS KING off Moreton Island, Australia, August 1942. The deck cargo has been removed and the bow has swung 180 degrees from her original position while the stern has pivoted raising the propeller. The grounding occurred 7 July 1942 and exposed no 3 upper 'tween deck and the forward bulkhead of the fuel oil settling tank. The bow was later floated and became a barge, while the stern was abandoned.
