On board the Victorious CAMPBELL after 12 hours of ramming six Submarines
Title: On board the Victorious CAMPBELL after 12 hours of ramming six Submarines
Caption: Contacting Nazi U- boats doesn't have any effect on the healthy appetites of the coast guardsmen aboard the Gallant Campbell. Day following the 12-hour period with in which the coast guard cutter routed six subs, this picture was taken of officers eating on deck. From left to right, They are : LT(jg) Leroy Van Nostrand, Long Island City, N.Y.; Lt(jg) Lawrence D. Bradley, Jr.; Los Angeles, Calif., Ensign Peter J. Butvidas, Nutley N.J. Lt. Frank S. Brown, Kittery Maine. The CAMPBELL 's engine room was flooded from a hole in her side , suffered when she rammed the sixth sub contacted, and she had to be towed to an unnamed east coast port.
