Caption: Master chief Steward Esteban U. Torres, Veteran of 22 years of service with the fleet, was sworn in on March 15, 1963 as Lieutenant (JG) in the Navy supply corps by Rear Admiral H. J. Goldberg, SC, USN, Deputy and assistant chief of the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts. This event marked the first time in U.S. Naval History that an enlisted man with a steward's rating has received a commission.
