NH 2308 Bombay, India

Bombay, India
Title: Bombay, India
Caption: Bombay, India as it appeared in 1740. This picture shows plainly that the flag of the British East India Company in 1740 was the same as the Grand Union flag first used in 1775 by the American Navy in the Revolution. Also, the flag at the mast head of the FELUCCA is very similar to our first jack. It is probably an Admiral's flag. It is probable that ships in the Boston Tea Party flew this flag. From a contemporary engraving by G. Vander Gucht after the painting by Lambert and Scott.
