Description: In the U.S. Navy section of a cemetary at Cherbourg, France. Photographed circa the early 1900s. James King, 2nd, described in Lieutenant Arthur Sinclair's Two Years on the Alabama as a splendid specimen of an Irishman had joined the crew of CSS Alabama at Singapore in December 1863. Mortally wounded in the battle with USS Kearsarge off Cherbourg on 19 June 1864, he died after being taken to that ship following the action. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
