Title: Sword of John Paul Jones
Caption: Given to Jones in 1775, carried by him during the American Revolution. Block of wood is a fragment of the sloop of war RANGER, on which Jones received the first salute given by any foreign power to the Stars and Stripes. The black ribbon is a cap ribbon of USS BROOKLYN (CA-3) that lay on Jones' casket en route from Paris to Naval Academy, Annapolis Maryland in 1905.
