NACHI (Japanese CA, 1927)
Title: NACHI (Japanese CA, 1927)
Caption: a USS LEXINGTON plane photographs burning wreckage in Manila Bay, at the time of NACHI's sinking. Original Caption: "Destroyer shown in skulking in background to pick up cruiser's survivors was mercilessly attacked and left burning and sinking by our planes. (Note: by target coordinator: 'We circled down to 20 feet to make sure there were absolutely no survivors. Fifteen or twenty oily figures were served with .50 caliber just to make sure.')". Despite the claims above No Japanese DD's were sunk in Manila Bay on 5 November. DD in background is either AKEBONO or USHIO. Also sunk on that date, off Correggio was Japanese Navy patrol boat #107, formerly USS GENESSEE (AT-55).
