Description: A British motor torpedo boat officer (Lieutenant, Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve) and an Italian submarine commander descend the gangway after a visit to USS Ancon (AGC-4), the invasion force flagship. Note the small pistol holster worn by the Italian officer, who may be the commanding officer of the submarine Nichelio. Photo is dated 12 September 1943, but may have been taken a few days earlier. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
