Description: 4 June 1944 The first boat from USS Pillsbury (DE-133) approaches the U-505, which is still underway, though abandoned by her crew. Pillsbury's boarding party faced the risk that U-505 might blow up at any moment, in accordance with the usual German abandonment tactics. Note the DE in the upper right background and Chief Petty Officer standing ready with a boarding hook in the boat's bow.
