Title: George D. Wallace Photo Collection
Description: Two Photo albums and several loose photographs related to the naval service of George D. Wallace aboard USS Chester (CA-27), 1936-1937. The first album begins with Wallace at the Naval War College and then sailing to the Philippines with stops in China. From there the photographs follow the cruise of the USS Chester while escorting USS Indianapolis with President Franklin Roosevelt embarked for a good-will visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay. Also included are visits to the Panama Canal with the ship traveling through the locks, as well as a cruise to Hawaii. The bulk of the imagery in the album relates to general onboard scenes and ports of call/liberty leave. The second album seems to pick up after the first and includes a large amount of onboard scenes and the ship’s cruise to Alaska and along the west coast during 1937. See below for additional information regarding subjects.
