Description: 41 declassified photographs showing the arrival of American ships at a British base in April 1942. The American forces were known as "The Task" Force and was commanded by RADM Robert Giffen. Vessels shown include: USS Wasp (CV-7); USS Washington (BB-56); USS Wichita (CA-45); USS Tuscaloosa (CA-37); HMS Victorious (R38); HMS King George; HMS Duke of York (17); HMS Edinburgh (16); HMS Achates (H12). Additionally, three photographs show African-American stewards working on an unidentified ship.
