S-560 Matthew Swain Collection

Collection of copies of images from photo album related to the 1890s New York Naval Militia and associated activities. Specific subject matter includes: officers of the New York Naval Militia in camp (tents, eating, rifle practice), rowing a racing cutter, and onboard an unidentified ship, and boarding training ship USS New Hampshire. Several images from this collection have been organized at the item level in the NH series: NH 96730-96735. The collection also includes a copy of a book entitled “the Official Souvenir Program of the First Naval Battalion, N.M.S.N.Y. for the Grand Naval Review from Hampton Roads to New York Harbor, April, 1893”. Most of the book is regarding the NY State Naval Militia’s annual “cruise” on 16-23 July 1892.
