Title: Otto Schwartz Photo Collection
Description: Collection of 8 copy negatives and prints (originals loaned from Schwartz) related to the USS Houston (CA-30). An additional 15 images related to USS Houston were removed and placed into the NH image series at the item level (NH 93153-NH 93168), see below. Included in the collection are images related to the ceremony in which the ship’s bell and other relics from USS Houston were presented to the US government by Indonesian salvagers who had recovered them from the ship’s wreck. The photographs were taken at the US Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, August 24, 1973. Also part of the collection are images taken on or from the USS Houston circa 1935-1941, including CAPT Jesse Oldendorf with ADM Thomas C. Hart onboard the ship; President Franklin D. Roosevelt with members of his party and ship’s officers (1934 & 1938), and in the Galapagos Islands, July 1938 (island views and fishing).
