Collection Guide:
The images are a combination of group photos (in formation as well as casual) of Rohmann’s fellow sailor classmates in the V-12 program on the University of Minnesota campus (a view of a campus building is also seen), as well as Rohmann’s service aboard USS Laurens (APA-153). Ship related views include exterior ship photos, fellow crewmembers onboard, general views aboard ship, loading passengers at Okinawa, and a view of Yokohama from the ship. The photographs are undated, however it is likely that they are circa March or April 1945, as the USS Laurens steamed out of Leyte Gulf for Okinawa on March 27, 1945. She assisted with the landing of troops and cargo until sailing for Saipan on April 6, 1945. Also included in the collection is an oversized panoramic image of Rohmann’s V-12 unit, May 25, 1945. Signatures from each classmate are on the reverse of the photograph.
