Title: Frances MacIntyre Photo Collection
Description: Collection of approximately 65 photographs related to CAPT Fletcher Lamar Sheffield, Jr. from the 1940s and 1950s when stationed on Guam and Saipan in Marianas Islands (the photographs have little to do with the Marianas Islands – CAPT Sheffield was CO of the base). Subject matter includes inspections by ADM Radford and RADM Fiske as well as other ceremonial activities on Saipan and Tinian, 1949; ceremony naming RADM John Harlee as Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission, July 20, 1965 (President Lyndon B. Johnson is present); and a series of images regarding German naval personnel in Charleston, SC preparing to take possession of surplus US Navy ships in 1952. Also included are individual photographs of the following ships: USS Basilone (DD-824); USS Lakeland (LSM-373); repairs to the bow of USS Henry A. Wiley (DD-749); and USS Brush (DD-745) undergoing repairs at Bremerton Naval Shipyard after mine damage near Tanchon, Korea.
