Description: The collection consists of a photo album related to naval career of Boatswain’s Mate James Hicks, specifically at NAS Santa Ana (Naval Lighter Than Air Station), circa WWII. Hicks served on USS Kenneth Whiting (AV-14), though no images of the ship are included in the donation (several service records and additional documents, including a personal diary, cite this fact). The album includes base crew and officers, various buildings, general activities, weather monitoring and observation, and airships. The airship/blimp photos are unidentified but consist of those in flight and attached to a mooring mast. Additional images of Hawaii, circa 1944, are also in the album but include no context or caption information. They are all scenic or of village life. There is also a small selection of what appear to be personal family photos post naval service.
