Collection photo # UA 17.01.01 - LT George M. Kemper (USN) celebrates mass for the Marines on the first Sunday after their landing on Guam
Collection of imagery related to the US Navy Chaplain Corps, mostly from the mid 1940s to early 1960s. Subject matter consists of imagery related to: portraits of chaplains (WWI-era), US Navy chapels on bases and aboard ships (interiors and exteriors), chaplains and chapels specifically during WWII (mainly the South Pacific) and during Vietnam, as well as conducting services during war and in peace time (weddings, dedications, Easter services, etc.). There are also several good early images of chaplains on Naval Bases, specifically Philadelphia. The collection is a good overall depiction of the various types of buildings and materials utilized as chapels during wartime (i.e.: straw huts & Quonset huts) and overseas.
