Wyandance (S.P. 359)

1917-1918

The Navy retained the name carried by this craft at the time of her acquisition.

(S.P. 359: tonnage 21; length 60'11"; beam 11'7"; depth of hold 5'7"; draft 1'11" (forward); speed 14 knots; complement 5; armament 2 1-pounders)

Wyandance, a motorboat built in 1905 at Bayonne, N.J., by the Electric Boat Co., was acquired from Mr. M. S. Burrill of Jericho, Long Island, N.Y., on 19 June 1917 and, having been assigned the identification number S.P. 359, was commissioned on 24 August 1917 at New York.

Wyandance served the Navy only briefly, a little more than five months, with the section patrol in the Third Naval District.  Decommissioned early in 1918, she was returned to her owner and her name was stricken from the Navy Register on 2 February 1918.
