Trilby (S. P. 673)

(MB: 1. 37'0"; b. 7'8"; dr.- 3'0" (forward); s. mph.; cpl. 4;a. 1 mg.)

The heroine in a novel of the same name by George du Maurier. An attractive young Parisian laundress, Trilby, under the guidance of Svengali, wins renown as an artist's model and later as a singer.

Trilby, a wooden-hulled motorboat, was acquired by the Navy from the Governor of Maine, Carl E. Milliken, on 29 June 1917. Designated S. P. 673 on 13 July, Trilby was assigned to the 1st Naval District as a section patrol vessel. By 11 August 1917, she had begun patrolling the harbor at Bath, Maine, and she continued to operate in the vicinity of that port at least until 11 November of that year. No records documenting her service, if any, beyond that date have been found. In any case, she was subsequently deemed unsuitable and was returned to her owner on 5 July 1918.
