Snapper (S. P. 2714)

1918-1919 

The first and third Snappers, submarines, were named for the fish, the second retained the name she carried at the time of her acquisition.

Snapper -- a wooden-hulled fishing boat, propelled by a gasoline engine, built in 1906 by T. E. Tull at Pocomoke City, Md. -- was purchased by the Navy at Norfolk on 14 September 1918 from W. S. Webber of that city; and was commissioned there on 5 October 1918.

Snapper -- assigned the identification number S. P. 2714 -- was assigned to the Fifth Naval District and served on section patrol in the Hampton Roads/Virginia capes area through the end of World War I.

Snapper was sold on 11 September 1919 to the Neptune Line of New York City.
