Najelda (S.P. 277)

The Navy retained the name carried by this vessel at the time of her acquisition.

(S.P. 277: tonnage 52 (gross register); length 60'0"; beam 18'5"; draft 5'0" (mean); complement 11; speed 10.0 knots (maximum), 9.0 knots (cruising); armament 1 6-pounder, 2 machine guns)

Najelda, a single-screw, wooden-hulled motor boat, was built in 1907 by N. Emanuel, Brunswick, Georgia, for Capt. F. P. Barry, New Orleans, La.; acquired by the Navy on 1 May 1917 for section patrol duties; and was commissioned on 6 May 1917.

Given the identification number S.P. 277, Najelda carried out patrol duties along the Gulf Coast. Decommissioned on 9 December 1918, and stricken from the Navy Register on 11 June 1919, she was sold to A. Denapolis of New Orleans on 30 October 1919.
